Let’s Get Things Done for Denver
One Main Street Denver is a collaboration of labor groups, firefighters, and small business leaders partnering to achieve the greater good for all of us. No matter race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
We can make Denver the national leader on solving problems and getting things done, but it’s going to take all of us working together.
One Main Street Denver is a historic collaboration of first responders, business leaders, labor unions, and community activists working to bring pragmatic solutions to our city.
We support candidates and leaders who are committed to bringing people together for the common good to solve problems and get things done. Our goal is to lift up communities through upward mobility and wealth generation, make home ownership more attainable, support the infrastructure that connects us, and make Denver the small business capital of the country. We can do it.
One Main Street Denver’s Priorities
Housing Shortage & Homelessness:
Home ownership builds generation wealth and creates upward mobility that lifts people out of poverty and into the middle class. Denver needs responsible development that respects the character of our neighborhoods. We support incentives for local urban developers who put our the people who live here and our city first.
Denver currently struggles to meet the increased demand for housing, where building a new home now takes almost four times as long as it should under Denver targets – causing the price of constructing new projects to rise and slowing down the process in which families can move into a new home.
The pressure on our housing supply is felt in rising home and rental prices and plays one part in our homeless epidemic, where multiple studies show 50% of all homeless people with children are Black and 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness are LGBTQ youth. We support creating more housing that allows all people, no matter their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, to be part of our city and contribute to the diversity that makes Denver great.
Public Safety:
Firefighters and EMS crews are the first on the scene to keep our city and open spaces safe, so they remain a utility that all of us can enjoy. Violent crime rates in Denver have increased 17% over the past two years and our city had to temporarily shut down Civic Center Park in 2021 due to public safety and health concerns.
Our neighborhoods belong to all of us. We must address rising crime to protect our parks, open spaces, community centers, and the economic opportunities that make us proud to call Denver home.
Rebuild the Middle Class & Make Denver the Small Business Capital of the Country:
Studies show Colorado to have the 11th fastest declining middle class population. In this pivotal moment, Denver can change course and become the national leader in bringing people together to rebuild our shrinking middle class and creating the upwards mobility that brings homeownership, generational wealth, sending your next generation to college, and retiring with dignity and confidence.
In addition to college programs, we support strengthening our trade and apprenticeship programs that equip people with the skills and knowledge they need to obtain high quality jobs with a strong future; whether that be as an electrician, plumber, pipefitter, or other skilled laborer.
With an educated population, robust outdoor recreation, and hardworking innovators and entrepreneurs, Denver has all the ingredients to become the small business capital of the country and create the upward mobility, wealth generation, and economic freedom that comes from working hard and owning and operating a small business.
Policies like best value contracting strengthen small businesses and our local economy by encouraging Denverites to buy and hire local to support Denver’s infrastructure, create high-quality jobs, and invest in our community.
